Songold: Cooling Protocol

Cooling and Storage Steps

  1. Cool to 0°C
    • Cool fruit to 0°C within 48 hours of harvest, but not quicker than 24 hours.
    • Note: Do not keep at 0°C for more than 10 days.
  2. Raise Temperature
    • On the specified date, raise the temperature to 7.5°C.
  3. Hold at 7.5°C
    • Maintain temperature at 7.5°C for 7 days.
    • Note: Shorter or longer periods may be necessary depending on fruit maturity and/or market requirements.
  4. Reduce Temperature
    • After the 7-day period, reduce temperature back to 0°C.

Additional Handling Guidelines

  • Do not cool below -0.5°C.
  • Pack on the same day as harvest.
  • Harvest during cool hours.
  • If not packed the same day as harvest, a special procedure for cooling and handling must be followed.
