HORTGRO PRESENTATION
The most versatile, resilient, and efficient building system in the world today
COMPANY OVERVIEW
We have been leading the charge into sustainable and efficient construction in insulated tilt up walls. Various projects all over the Peninsula have been completed with clients ranging from large-scale foreign investment to the local and humble farmers.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission is to provide an alternative construction method through innovative solutions that drive sustainable and efficient operating initiatives. We are committed to delivering top quality, on time and on budget to our valued clients.
BUSINESS PRACTICE
Insulated tilt-up is a process in which large insulated concrete panels are cast on site and placed into their positions. No columns are needed as the roof structure keeps the walls together and the walls keep the roof up.
DESIGN
With the simplicity of what the building can be, the sky is the limit for design. With an ever-evolving level of finishing and the pushing of design capability, concrete is one of the most versatile and forgiving materials to work with.
BENIFITS OF TILT UP
- Tilt-up construction enables faster builds, typically 30–50% quicker due to reduced labour and large batch work.
- It improves energy efficiency, saving about 20–30% through low R-value and high thermal performance.
- The structures offer strong long-term ROI, lasting 100–150% longer than conventional buildings.
- Benefits include airtight and watertight durability, reducing breakages, gas use, and maintenance costs.
- Overall, it provides a cost-effective, efficient, and long-lasting construction solution.
THE PROCESS
Adopting and applying a building technique that has been perfected for over 50 years in the USA to our home country. The process involves sandwiching insulation between two large scale concrete panels and connecting them together with thermodynamic pins.
Development
RA/CA Rooms
- Tilt-up construction provides airtight, energy-efficient buildings with fewer joints and better sealing.
- It reduces refrigerant leaks and improves insulation, saving about 20–30% energy.
- The modular design allows easy expansion and customization.
- It is well suited for RA/CA rooms and cold storage due to rising agricultural demand.
INSULATION THECNOLOGY
The debate and use of EPS or XPS is long-standing. We choose to use XPS as it is more dense, does not allow for water absorption affecting the R-value, and provides more tensile strength for the panel.
- Density (material science)
- XPS: 32–35 kg/m³
- EPS: 16–32 kg/m³
- Moisture behaviour
- XPS: Hydrophobic (resists water absorption)
- EPS: Hydrophilic (more prone to absorbing water)
- Compressive strength
- XPS: 200–750 kPa
- EPS: 70–250 kPa
XPS is denser, stronger, and more water-resistant than EPS, making it better suited for demanding insulation applications.
