Inspection Procedures for Stone Fruit Exports

Key Steps

  • Arrange regular inspections with PPECB to ensure fruit can be placed under forced air cooling as soon as possible.
  • Offer fruit for export inspection to PPECB on the day it is packed.
  • Approved fruit must be placed in a cold room for forced air-cooling within 1 hour of inspection.
  • If fruit was not stored in a high-humidity cool room, ensure the total time from harvest to the start of forced air-cooling does not exceed 6 hours.

PPECB Responsibilities (per HP29 Protocol)

  • Conduct inspections on behalf of the Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development.
  • Inspect and certify cold storage facilities.
  • Monitor product temperatures at various points.
  • Specify and monitor shipping temperatures and tolerances.
  • Act as area manager at the loading port and maintain daily records of each ship, including procedures and temperatures.
  • Oversee all in-transit cold-sterilised shipping.
  • Provide technical advice.
  • Provide statistics related to product shipping.
