2. General Notes
2.1 Carrying Temperatures
- The carrying temperature refers to the Delivery Air Temperature (DAT).
- DAT is typically the thermostat setpoint, but may be fine-tuned to achieve the specified DAT within ±0.5°C.
- Maximum permissible DAT fluctuation: ±0.5°C.
- Example: For -0.5°C, DAT must be between -1.0°C and 0.0°C.
2.2 Cold Blasts
- If DAT and RAT differ by more than 1°C, DAT may be reduced by 0.5°C for 3 hours out of every 6 to achieve the prescribed temperature.
- Special procedures apply for certain products (e.g., avocados, mangoes, peaches, plums).
- If the temperature difference persists and RAT does not reduce after DAT is lowered, check cooling/air systems and inform PPECB if unresolved after 24 hours.
2.3 Controlled Atmosphere (CA)
- CA containers must not be ventilated with fresh air during transit; keep fresh air valves closed.
- Warning: Never enter or repair a CA container unless normal atmosphere is restored.
2.4 Modified Atmosphere (MA)
- Containers with MAXtend system: keep fresh air vent cover open at all times.
- Do not open evaporator panels or remove MA equipment; this causes air leakage and loss of control.
- Special instructions are issued as part of PPECB Carrying Temperature Instructions (CTI).
2.5 AFAM+/e-Autofresh/Smartfresh
- Containers under these conditions can only be ventilated as per automatic unit settings or by special arrangement with exporter/shipping line.
2.6 Plum Exports
- New code (PK) range for new stacking/loading methods; temperature regimes same as PD ranges.
- PE, PC, PB, and PU ranges also identify new stacking/loading methods.
2.7 Apricot/Nectarine/Peaches
- New code (DK) for new stacking/loading methods (HAF), used under experimental conditions. Temperature regime same as DO5 range.
2.8 Automatic Setting Change (A)
- Shipping lines may arrange automatic container re-settings for dual regime products en route. Same recipe applies, but with automatic set point changes.
2.9 Dual Temperature Regimes
- For regimes requiring temperature changes after departure from a specific port.
- Any changes due to delays must be communicated to Cargo Owner/Agent and PPECB before vessel departure.
2.10 Warming Up Clause (Cold Treatment Shipments)
- After cold treatment, the container setpoint can be raised.
- Only apply after receiving specific instructions from the shipping line.
- Raise setpoints to +1.5°C, then step up by 1.5°C increments only after pulp temperatures stabilize within 0.5°C of the new setpoint.
